What is better, Microdermabrasion or Dermaplaning?

My short answer is, they are both great treatments! I will explain the similarities and the differences in either of these treatments, and let you choose for yourself.

Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning or both mechanical exfoliation treatments. Meaning, they use some kind of moving part to exfoliate (remove) your dead skin cells.

Microdermabrasion removes the dead cells with a small wand vacuum. The vacuum uses suction to suck the top dead layer of cells of off your skin. The tip of the wand may be a bit textured to rough up the dead cells making it easier for the vacuum to remove them. What is left behind is a beautifully polished surface.

Dermaplaning on the other hand is performed with a small hand held tool that shaves off the top dead layer of skin cells. Your aesthetician should be highly trained and skilled in performing this treatment. Along with shaving off the top dead layer of skin cells, your vellus hair (peach fuzz) will be removed also. Your skin will be smooth smooth smooth!

Both treatments require zero downtime, can be performed in under 30 minutes, and will leave your skin squeaky clean.

When a client comes to me and is unsure of which treatment to have done, I will always take the time to talk through each option, their own concerns, desired outcome and we will choose together.
