How To Take A Detox Bath

In ancient times, bathing as a form of detoxification was very popular. In certain circles, your skin is known as the third kidney, all being organs to get rid of waste. Taking a detox bath can assist your body in eliminating toxins, and also absorb the minerals and nutrients that are adding to the water. Best of all, it’ll leave you feeling refreshed and awakened

Here are 9 easy steps.

  • Step 1- Give yourself plenty of time (approximately 30 minutes) to have your detox bath. You will need 15 minutes to allow your body to remove toxins, and the next 15 minutes to absorb the minerals in the water.
  • Step 2- Fill your tub with hot water. bath-tubs-company
  • Step 3- Add Epsom salts (aka magnesium sulfate) Magnesium and sulfate are both natural mineral that are easily absorbed through the skin. In the body, Magnesium assists in regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes, reducing inflammation, helping muscle and nerve function and helping to prevent artery hardening. Sulfates help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins and can also help ease migraine headaches. Epsom Salt is available at most grocery and drug stores.
  • Step 4- Add 1 to 2 cups of Baking soda (aka sodium bicarbonate) Baking soda is known for its cleansing ability, has anti-fungal properties and will leave your skin feeling very soft.
  • Step 5- Add ground ginger or freshly made ginger tea. This step is optional. The purpose if ginger in this mix is to increase your body heat level, helping to sweat out toxins.  Since your body will actually get hotter, your skin may turn slightly red for a few minutes, so if you add ginger, only add a small amount. The recommended amount is 1 Tablespoon to 1/3 cup, the amount varies on the water capacity of your tub. Start with a small amount.
  • Step 6- Add Essential Oils. Again this step is optional, but highly recommended. There are many essential oils available, each one having its own specific aromatherpy qualities. Some of my favorite are; lavender, good for  balancing, soothing, calming and relaxing. tea tree oil good for cleansing, purifying, uplifting. chamomile oil good for calming, relaxing, soothing. 20 drops is sufficient for a standard bath. If you prefer, you can use fresh herbs. Aromatherpy Oils can be found at most specialty stores, and some grocery stores
  • Step 7- Move all the ingredients in the water around and soak. 30 minutes is recommended (the longer the better). Typically you will start sweating after the first few minutes. You should feel a comfortable sweat. If you feel too hot, start adding cold water until you cool off.
  • Step 8-  Get out of the tub slowly and carefully. You just gave your body a workout, so you may feel light-headed, exhausted and a little weak. Your tub will also feel a little slippery to your feet, so be careful!
  • Step 9- Drink lots of H20. Anytime your you detox your body, it needs your help flushing out all of the toxins. Drinking plain water is the best way to do this. If you skip this step, it is likely that you may feel sick afterwards.
